Opera Carolina’s Academy Chorus 
Music connects us all through the text, melodic contour, rhythm, and more. Our Academy Chorus is a mixture of students in grades 3rd – 7th from all across Charlotte and our neighboring cities of many different races, ethnicities, languages, and cultures. Our music explores singing in different languages, including made-up languages! Our program includes music connecting across different cultures to bring us all together in a message of unity for the community.
Opera Carolina’s Academy Chorus under the direction of McKenzie Coleman engages youth grades 3rd – 7th from all across Charlotte and our neighboring cities in exciting rehearsals meant to build the foundation of musical study while also growing their sense of community and enjoyment of music. Our Academy Chorus has sung in BOOM Charlotte (2022), Festival in the Park on the Youth Stage (2023), and on the grand stage with Opera Carolina performances including Cavelleria Rusticana and Tosca.
