“Bharathanatyam – Thillana:” Dance

South Indian Classical dance form Bharathanatyam, is one of the eight most classical dances of India. A traditional and cultural dance form, the word Bha ra tha natyam is said to describe as Bhava the expressions, raga the tune or music, and natyam the dance.

BIO

Mahalakshmi Rajaram, granddaughter of the late Kalamandalam V. K. Ramakrishnan, a mridangist, has been teaching Bharathanatyam dance for the past ten years in India and recently moved to Charlotte.

She began dancing Bharathanatyam at the age of 7. Mahalakshmi has a master’s degree in Bharathanatyam from Thanjavur, India. In addition, she is receiving advanced training in dance from Guru Sri N. Srikanth, the director of Nrithyalaya in Kozhikode.

Being a passionate learner, She is currently learning Sattriya, classical dance form of assam from Guru Priyadarshini Inman. She has also been learning Carnatic music for two years now from Guru Smt. Subhashini Kannan.
