BIO

Corbin Allgood McKinnon was born 15 weeks early and before he came home from the hospital he was completely blind. When he was 5 years old he went to Disney World and heard a bagpiper at the British Exhibit. He was immediately and madly in love and wanted to play them.

It’s not easy to learn bagpipes when you can’t see because so much goes on at once. In bagpipe culture bagpipes are taught to new pipers at the beginning of the weekly bagpipe band rehearsal. Several caring bagpipers took him on and taught him the basics of playing the tune. Because he was gifted with perfect pitch, learning to play the tunes was not too hard. However, learning to play the pipes with the correct arm and breathing movements was more challenging.

His teacher and mentor, John Rechnagle was eager to take him on due to his enthusiasm. John taught Corbin how to incorporate all the bagpiping components into playing a tune. Now Corbin plays in individual competitions, in band performances for a variety of activities, solo for a variety of events-weddings, funerals, graduations, birthday parties, BOOM Festivals, etc. He absolutely loves to play bagpipes.
