Melody Shanahan –
“Juana Gallo A Revolutionary Woman:” Dance

This artist is a part of the Showcase of RESISTANCE in ANCESTRAL Unity.

I am a ballet dancer who combines Latin/Mexican rhythms to tell a story on stage. My mission has been to break cultural borders through dance as a Mexican-American loving my roots combining classical ballet with Folkloric/Spanish sounds as a unique style. Taking advantage of my Mexican/Irish Heritage has given me an opportunity to express my roots creating a bridge within my ballet dance to tell the story of Hispanic Revolutionary Women. I have the honor to perform “Juana Gallo, A Soldadera in the Mexican Revolution” and” Migration is Beautiful,” representing migration through dance as a Monarch butterfly.

Melody Shanahan was born in Charlotte NC. Her Mom is from Mexico and her Dad, from Buffalo, New York, is of Irish heritage. She is a Mexican/Irish girl taking advantage of being multicultural.

Shanahan finished high school last December at North Carolina Cyber Academy at age 16. She is a former student of Northwest School of the Arts. She was a member of the National Honor Society and National Honor Society for Dance Arts. Currently, she is attending Open Doors Studio for Ballet.

Her mission has been to break cultural borders through the art of dance since she was 8 years old. She has been performing since then Irish/Latin jazz, Mexican folkloric dance and ballet on pointe in festivals around SC, Charlotte, Raleigh and Greensboro, NC.
