A hip hop show, highlighting the album Self Medicate. An album focused on self healing, self care and self awareness. We will have special guest artists to grace the stage with us with a DJ curating the sound and vibes for the performance.
Kil Ripkin and Jah Freedom take the stage to bring their own unique sound that mixes influences of golden era hip-hop, boom bap, funk and the unique, down to the ground, feel of the southern soil they have become accustomed to. This duo is known for their dynamic live sets with Jah’s production and Kil’s witty lyricism, pushing Charlotte’s sound to the forefront of the rap game. Their first full length joint album, “Self Medicate”, was released in 2022 and received critical acclaim from both fans and critics alike. The album featured a number of standout singles such as “The Show Must Go on”, “Look at God”, and “Bars Ultra”.
This in addition to the release of non album singles “Peasantry,” “Break you” and “Train,” featuring Big Supreme, another Charlotte artist who touts lyrics like “I came a long way from the studio apartments on the east side of Charlotte, look at where we started, I just wanted something modest, little land and a cottage.” The duo has been a consistent presence in the Charlotte hip-hop scene, regularly performing at local venues such as Snug Harbor, Petra’s, The Fillmore and The Blumenthal. They have also performed at the legendary and famed venue, SOB’s, in New York and Esquina De Abuela in Miami, Florida. They have been featured on nationally syndicated radio shows, playlists and internationally broadcasted shows like Shade 45 on Sirius XM and the Wake up Show.
