Hoan Rahlan – New Voices Showcase –
“New Life:” Visual Art

Hoan will show her painting titled “New Life.” She will talk about her life experiences, her culture (Montagnard) and how coming to the United State has helped her become the person she is today.

BIO

Hoan Rahlan is an artist from Vietnam. She has called Charlotte, NC, home since 2007. She is a member of the Montagnard people (the indigenous peoples of the Central Highlands of Vietnam) in her homeland. Coming from this background and culture is one of the most important factors within her artwork.

Rahlan graduated from Barton College in 2017 with a Bachelor of Fine Art degree. She presently attends UNCG to obtain her MFA. Rahlan’s main medium is oil paint. It has been important for Rahlan to focus on variety of material as she alternately ventures into various new subjects, topics, or symbols in her work.

She has begun to incorporate the varying aspects of her history between her two homes, America and Vietnam. While living in a way that clearly exhibits the experiences she has gathered as Montagnard and American, Rahlan strives to create work that merges the cultures along with the self to portray her own sense of “home” and its impact on the individual.
