Our fifth BOOM festival will feature original full length (45-55 min.) performances, each performed 3 times over the weekend of April 17th – 19th, 2020, in several small venues of Plaza Midwood. These works are all created by the artists presenting them and are at the cutting edge of artistic exploration. We accept only original material that has not been previously performed in Charlotte. Exceptions may be made if the submission undergoes a significant re-work for BOOM. Fringe features edgy, experimental, experiential, original performance work by local and national artists (YOU). BOOM Fringe submissions are adjudicated by a Core Artist Team, with an eye toward creating a diverse, edgy festival.
Submissions for BOOM FRINGE 2020 are now closed.
BOOM INTERSECTION/STREET is the space in which art, culture and community collide. We’ll have free live music and performance art on our outdoor INTERSECTION stage, and visual and performance art installations around the neighborhood and literally in the STREET on Sunday April 19th. The Intersection will provide an anchor for the festival by creating a location where audience and community members can congregate in an outdoor living room with couches and a fire pit. At the Intersection you can find out more about BOOM, play in the children’s activity spaces, and participate in a free, outdoor family-friendly environment (family friendly before 8pm, can be edgier after that). The INTERSECTION will include whatever you envision, submit and make happen.
Submissions for BOOM INTERSECTION/STREET PERFORMANCES and INSTALLATIONS 2020 are now closed.
Submissions for BOOM VISUAL ARTISTS 2020 are now closed.
BOOM is open and inclusive. We intentionally seek out diversity in race, gender, age, background and styles to present a broad range of performances and installations to inspire as many people as possible. Join us and bring your friends and family. We can’t do BOOM without YOU!
Friday, April 17, Saturday, April 18 and Sunday, April 19, 2020.
BOOM takes place in the funky and historic neighborhood of Plaza-Midwood, located a few minutes drive east of Uptown Charlotte and North Davidson (NoDa).
